Residents evacuate Aurora building after bricks fall from façade – NBC Chicago

Residents were directed to evacuate a building in downtown Aurora on Saturday evening after bricks began falling off the façade, authorities said.

As of 7:08 p.m., all residents had evacuated 102 and 104 East Galena Boulevard after the Aurora Fire Department deemed the structure “unsound,” Aurora police said in an alert.

Authorities said several people called police saying bricks on the front of the building were falling to the street and sidewalk below. The American Red Cross responded to assist those living in the building’s 11 residence, according to authorities.

As first responders worked on scene, Galena between Lincoln and Broadway was closed until further notice, police said.
