Report: WVU closing in on deal with defensive coordinator Zac Alley

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Pete Thamel of ESPN is reporting that WVU is closing in on a contract with their new defensive coordinator. Thamel reports that West Virginia is finalizing a three-year deal with Zac Alley.

Alley spent the 2024 season with the Oklahoma Sooners as the co-defensive coordinator and linebackers coach. Alley previously worked two seasons on the staff with new WVU head coach Rich Rodriguez at Jacksonville State in 2022 and 2023 as the defensive coordinator and linebackers coach for the Gamecocks. Alley held the same roles at Louisiana-Monroe in 2021.

This fall, OU ranked fifth-best in the Southeastern Conference and 31st in FBS in total defense.

At age 28, Alley was the youngest defensive coordinator in FBS in the 2021 season. Prior to his stint at ULM, Alley worked on staffs at Boise State and Clemson.
