Quetta Gladiators flexed their PSL X title credentials once more against Islamabad United in the first qualifier to book their tickets to the final on May 25.
Saud Shakeel’s men earned a dominant 30-run victory at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore. It was a clinical performance from Quetta, who piled on 209 for 6 after choosing to bat and then bowled out United for 179 in 19.4 overs to seal their place in the tournament’s finale.
Quetta’s innings was powered by a late surge from Dinesh Chandimal and Faheem Ashraf. The pair added 95 runs together in just 48 balls to finish off the work started by Finn Allen.
In reply, Islamabad started poorly, losing Alex Hales in the second over. Sahibzada Farhan, Rassie van der Dussen, and Salman Ali Agha kept the chase alive, but regular wickets at the other end meant Islamabad never quite caught up with the required rate.
Usman Tariq was the pick of the bowlers for Quetta with figures of 3 for 32, including key breakthroughs in the middle overs. Mohammad Amir (2 for 31) and Mohammad Wasim (2 for 38) also delivered crucial spells.
Quetta’s win over Islamabad United in the qualifier is their third straight win over the side in PSL X.
With this win, Quetta secure a direct berth in the final. Islamabad, meanwhile, will have one more chance to qualify through Eliminator 2, where they will face either Karachi Kings or Lahore Qalandars.
PSL X will continue tomorrow with David Warner’s Kings taking on Shaheen Afridi’s Qalandars for a chance to face Islamabad United.
