Nihali Devi had gone to Prayagraj with her husband Ramnarayan Bairwa (65) and they were a part of a group of 60-70 persons. Her son Sanwar Lal, 35 told The Indian Express, “My parents were leaving the ghat around 3 am after taking a dip. But while they were leaving, devotees who wanted to bathe were coming towards them. There was a lot of dhakka mukki (pushing and shoving) and the entire group got separated.”

“My mother fell and died on the spot. My father then removed her body sometime later and kept it on the side. Once the crowd thinned, it was shifted to an ambulance. After postmortem, it was sent off at 6 pm on Wednesday and arrived in the village around 11 am today,” he said.
