Police scene in place off Market Street in Manchester following incident

A police scene was put in place off Market Street in Manchester city centre following an incident on Thursday night (March 20).

Officers were seen stationed at the cordon along Tib Street, near to the Starbucks café and Sachas Britannia hotel.

Tape cordoned off the street in front of a burger kiosk. A police car was seen parked beside the Market Street Metrolink stop with tape covering the area.

Trams experienced minor delays due to the incident. An update from Bee Network read: “Due to a police incident at Market Street we are experiencing a minor delay to some services on the Bury and Airport lines.”

An officer was also seen positioned through the alley, narrowed due to ongoing roadworks, at the junction with Back Piccadilly.

A number of police vehicles were also seen parked nearby. Details about the nature of the incident have not yet been confirmed.

Greater Manchester Police have been contacted for a statement.
