Police have issued a statement after reports of a man “hiding in bushes” near a primary school. Blackwood Primary School issued a message to parents warning them about reports of a man hiding and “jumping out at people” near the site in Caerphilly county.

The message said: “School would like to make you aware that a man was hiding in bushes by the park over by Apollo Way and jumping out on people. The police have been informed. Please tell your children to be vigilant and report any incidents to the police.”

This message was issued after the school became aware of an incident on April 8, whereby police received a call from a woman who claimed a man suddenly appeared from the bushes “acting suspiciously”.

Gwent Police have now issued a statement, confirming they have established no crime was committed. Don’t miss a court report by signing up to our crime newsletter here

Inspector Chris Hopkin said: “We have not had any calls concerning incidents involving any school children.

“We had one call on 8 April from a lady who said a man appeared from the bushes acting suspiciously and we have spoken to her, reviewed CCTV opportunities, searched the area and established there was no crime committed.

“Of course our local neighbourhood officers are here to speak to anyone who may be concerned, you can contact us via 101, quoting Log 285, 08/04/25, or you can contact us online.”
