Police investigating after man drowns in the Hunter

A man has drowned in a waterhole near Dungog in the Hunter region of NSW.

Police were called at about 3.45pm on Sunday to a swimming hole at Ladies Well at Upper Allyn – about 48km northwest of Dungog – after reports of a swimmer in trouble.

A body was subsequently retrieved from the water and the man is yet to be formally identified.

A crime scene has been established and inquiries continue.
