Police seized £20,000 worth of suspected cannabis in a huge raid.

At around 1.50pm on Friday afternoon (July 18), officers in Derker spotted a 17-year-old male on a bike during one of the team’s regular proactive patrols in the area.

That led to a police chase, before the teenager was stopped and detained.

Officers discovered wraps of brown and white powder. The boy was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply.

The suspect’s home was then searched, with more suspected class B drugs – cannabis – discovered. The haul has an estimated street value of around £20,000.

Police then arrested two more people at the home, including a man aged 38 and a woman aged 35.

They were arrested on suspicion of drugs offences.

Multiple phones and more than £1,000 in unaccounted cash was also taken by police in the haul, as well as other drugs paraphernalia being uncovered.

The three people who were arrested have since been released on bail pending further enquiries.

The trio are the latest in a list of more than one hundred people who have been arrested since Greater Manchester Police’s Operation Vulcan launched in the area in March.

The operation has already scored successes in Cheetham Hill and Piccadilly Gardens, and has seen tens of thousands of pounds of controlled substances seized, along with around £30,000 in suspect criminal cash.

Officers have secured 13 property possession orders and 22 community behaviour orders, directly targeted at those involved in criminal activities and anti-social behaviour in the area.

Inspector Dan Cullum, from GMP’s Vulcan team, said: “This latest success shows the effectiveness of proactive policing efforts in Derker, and the wider work that can unravel from a single search.

“With 110 arrests already in the area since March, Vulcan’s crime-smashing operation and work with partners is continuing to make Derker a safer area, with criminals never allowed to rest and those in genuine need being supported wherever possible.

“We would encourage anyone with any issues in the area to get in touch with us – we are dedicated to taking criminality out of the area and supporting your community however we can.”
