Plea at Aurangabad bench of high court: Beed sarpanch’s brother seeks murder charges against Karad, removal of Munde | Mumbai News

Brother of Santosh Deshmukh, sarpanch of Massajog village in Beed district who was murdered on December 9, on Monday approached the Aurangabad bench of the Bombay High Court seeking independent investigation into the systemic failures of law enforcement in the district and addition of murder charges against key accused Walmik Karad of the NCP.

Dhananjay Panditrao Deshmukh approached HC on Monday through advocate Shomitkumar V Salunke and also sought cancellation of the ministerial post of NCP leader Dhananjay Munde to ensure a fair probe.

Santosh Deshmukh, a popular grassroots leader in Beed district, was allegedly kidnapped and assaulted for around three hours, resulting in his death. His body was dumped on a road near his village on December 9.

His brother claimed that police officers who are dutybound to maintain law and order were involved and indirectly aided the accused to commit a murder. “If the police officer of the station concerned had taken action within the crucial hour of the incident, then the brother of the petitioner might have been alive today,” the plea claimed.

The plea sought direction from the court to the state police to add erring police officer as an accused along with Walmik Karad for several offences under Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) and provisions of Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act. The plea also sought addition of murder charges against the accused persons.

Further, it sought direction to the state government to cancel Munde’s ministerial post “due to his past incidences of collaboration as well as his very close association with Karad, the head of the criminal syndicate”. It sought direction to the state government to file a detailed report to the court on delay in registration of crime and for not taking legal action during the crucial period.
