A spokesperson for South Wales Police said they were alerted to a car fire on the A470 southbound carriageway between Abercynon and Pontypridd.
They said: “In order to ensure the safety of the occupants and South Wales Fire and Rescue Service personnel engaged in fighting the fire, it was necessary to close the carriageway for a short period of time and this was done with the assistance of Welsh Assembly Traffic Officers.
“No persons were injured and we would like to thank any persons caught in the tail back for their patience and co-operation during this delay.
“The disabled vehicle has since been recovered and the road has now fully reopened.”
