A TV cameraman has been left with a scratched forehead after he was hit in the head by a wayward ball kicked by Opposition Leader Peter Dutton at a photo-op in Darwin.
Ghaith Nadir, a cameraman for Channel 10, was filming the event at a local footy club when the ball went straight towards him.
“Oh got him,” Dutton said before realising the kick had left the man with a bloodied forehead after the ball hit his camera into his head.
”Oh it split him open too. Oh no,” he said.
The opposition leader went to check on the injured cameraman, who was not seriously injured.
Dutton shook Nadir’s hand after checking on him.
Dutton had been at the Palmerstone sports ground to announce a $5 million dollar investment to the sports precinct.
“We know that sport is a powerful tool in bringing communities together. That’s why the Coalition is investing in Cazalys Arena,” Dutton told the media after the kicking incident.
“This iconic arena will get the upgrade it needs and deserves. This will give thousands of young people and their families a safe and modern sporting environment and ensure this great arena is fit for purpose for decades to come.”
Peter Dutton had been in Darwin this morning unveiling a new policy to buy back the Port of Darwin after it was leased for 99 years to a private company with Chinese connections.
The deal was approved under then-Coalition Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull.
