Tributes have been paid to a gran who died after being hit by a car she had just stepped out of. Pauline Millward, 76, had just got out of the Hyundai Tuscon – which had pulled onto the drive of an address in Leeds – when she was fatally struck.

Emergency services raced to Lea Mill Park Drive in the Yeadon area of the city following the horror crash at 2:40pm on Thursday, but she could not be saved.

A man was arrested in connection with the incident and has since been released pending further enquiries.

Pauline’s family have now paid tribute to her. They said in a statement: “Pauline was a wonderful woman.

“She was an amazing mother, wife, mother-in-law, grandmother and sister who would have done anything for her family.

“She will be missed every day by all who knew her. At this time we would ask for some privacy as a family.”

A West Yorkshire Police spokesperson urged anyone with information about the incident to come forward.

They said: “Officers from the Major Collision Enquiry Team (MCET) are investigating the collision and ask anyone who may have been in the area at the time of the incident and who may have seen it to come forward.

“Contact West Yorkshire Police by calling 101 or go online at quoting reference 13240143144.”

Several people have paid tribute to the woman on social media and have said their thoughts are with her friends and family.

One person commented: “RIP sweetheart. Thoughts are with family and friends and emergency services.”

Another said: “Poor lady RIP, sending love to her family.”

Someone else commented: “So awful, thoughts go out to relatives.”
