Panchkula police issues 431 challans to motorists for drink-driving in month | Chandigarh News

Adopting a zero-tolerance policy against drink-driving, the Panchkula police in one month have issued 431 challans to motorists found driving under the influence of alcohol.

As per the police, the crackdown is being led by SHO (City Traffic) Inspector Sunil Kumar and Surajpur Traffic In-Charge Sub-Inspector Narendra Kumar.

Under their supervision, six dedicated checkpoints have been set up across different parts of the city, where police teams remain deployed every night equipped with breath analyzers and alcohol detection kits.

The credit for the success of this drive goes to the coordinated efforts of police personnel, including Inspectors, constables, Home Guards, and Special Police Officers (SPOs), who are working tirelessly day and night.

ACP (Traffic) Sukhrpal Singh emphasised the importance of the campaign, stating, “Drunk driving is not just a violation of traffic rules — it is a social crime that can cost innocent lives. We are maintaining strict vigilance to ensure that no innocent person loses their life due to someone else’s recklessness under the influence.”

According to police officials, driving under the influence impairs a driver’s ability to make decisions, maintain balance, and respond quickly, thereby increasing the risk of serious road accidents. The dangers posed are not limited to the intoxicated driver alone, but also extend to fellow motorists and pedestrians on the road.

The Panchkula police has made a strong appeal to the public to act responsibly and never drive under the influence of alcohol. Citizens are also encouraged to report any instances of drunk driving they witness to the nearest police station.
