ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) has established the country’s first women association of the game, the Pakistan Women’s Tennis Association (PWTA), aimed at promoting women’s tennis, according to a press release issued by the PTF on Tuesday.
However, the new association was formed without an election process, with Asma Khawar Khawaja appointed as president, Zaira Ahmad Zaka as secretary-general and Sara Ibrahim Khan as treasurer.
“The formation of PWTA is a landmark development in the promotion and growth of women’s tennis in Pakistan,” the PTF said in a press release.
PTF president Aisam-ul-Haq has been credited with championing women’s tennis, and the federation described the PWTA’s establishment as “a testament to his vision and leadership.”
