Islamabad: Bangladesh may soon get JF-17 Thunder fighter jets from Pakistan. There are reports that talks on this deal between the two countries are progressing. In the current political instability of Bangladesh, the induction of this powerful jet can be a cause of concern for India.

“This is good news for Bangladesh and Pakistan,” said Former Pakistani diplomat and a former High Commissioner to India Abdul Basit.

“Relations between Pakistan and Bangladesh are improving. First senior officers of the Bangladesh Army came to Pakistan and then a delegation of Pakistan’s intelligence agency ISI visited Dhaka. India is troubled by the improving relations between Pakistan and Bangladesh. India has long wanted that the relationship between the two should not be good, but now India is failing in it,” he said.

India showing aggression

Basit said that if Bangladesh gets JF-17 fighter jets from Pakistan, then it can be a very important deal.

“It is currently one of the most powerful aircraft in the world. Bangladesh wants this jet because it considers security concerns from India. Since the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s government, India has threatened Bangladesh many times. India is a big country, Bangladesh is a small country, but with the help of Pakistan, Dhaka wants to improve its security,” said Basit.

“Pakistan and Bangladesh have a shared history. There was tension in the relations between the two countries, but now both should move on from it. I want Bangladesh and Pakistan to move forward on forming a common army and then add other Muslim countries to it. It will be a NATO-like alliance and in the event of any attack, these countries will help each other,” he added.

Commenting on the improving relations between Pakistan and Bangladesh, Basit said both the countries were on the right track.

“The JF-17 deal can prove to be a milestone in this. There is no doubt that the two countries can become close friends. In such a situation, both should take forward the relationship and demolish the wall that was built between Pakistan and Bangladesh during Sheikh Hasina’s time,” said Basit.
