Pahalgam Terror Attack Live Updates: Pakistani troops continued ceasefire violations along the Line of Control (LoC) for the eight consecutive night on Thursday by its unprovoked firing in five areas across Jammu & Kashmir, officials said, adding that the Indian military responded proportionately.
The exchange of fire took place amid heightened tensions and a string of tit-for-tat measures by the two countries over the April 22 terror attack in Jammu & Kashmir’s Pahalgam that killed 26 tourists. Civilians living along the LoC and International Border have begun cleaning their community and individual bunkers to make them habitable in case of escalation to shelling.
The violations come despite a recent hotline conversation between the Directors General of Military Operations of India and Pakistan, during which the Indian side is learnt to have cautioned Pakistan.
The Resistance Front, a shadow group of the banned Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba terror group, claimed responsibility. Following the attack, India downgraded diplomatic ties and announced a raft of measures against Pakistan, which adopted a similar move in retaliation. Both the countries have shut down their airspaces for one another.
