A woman has gone viral for sharing her cat’s bizarre post-shower habit, and prompted other owners to share their own stories.
The woman, who posts to TikTok under the username @lelatrainer, took to social media on April 7, where she shared a video of her fluffy gray cat, Gatsby.
In the video, clearly taken in a bathroom, Gatsby lies curled up on his owner’s lap; she is wearing a towel and clearly fresh out of the shower. She says: “Gatsby absolutely insists on having what we call ‘towel time.’
“He will clock the shower turning off from floors away and scratch at the door until I let him in to sit on my towel-covered lap for a minimum of two minutes.”
And, she added, he will “lose his mind if he doesn’t get towel time,” writing in the caption: “Towel time is a must.”
The woman asked other pet owners to “tell me the weirdest thing your cat does. Not bad, just like … odd.”
And cat owners responded in their droves, awarding the video more than 54,000 likes as they flocked to the comments to share their pets’ strangest habits.
“My cat doesn’t like to be held, but loves attention,” one wrote. “His favorite thing is for everyone in the house to be sitting/standing around talking in one room so he can lay in the floor in the middle of us.”
Another revealed their cat “MUST smell everyone’s breath in order to trust them. Anyone who spends the night wakes up to him smelling their breath in the middle of the night. He hides from them until he can do that.”
One user compared “towel time” to their cat’s “car wash time,” saying the pet “WILL scream and bite until I do it for her.”
They added: “What is car wash time? I flip my hair upside down for her to walk through. it has to be the perfect height for her or else.”
And yet another revealed their own cat’s strange bathroom habit; in this case, he “will ONLY cuddle with me when I’m sitting on the toilet. Not when I’m sitting on the kitchen chair, the bed, or my home office chair … the toilet.”
It appears plenty of cats have a strange curiosity about the bathroom, with one user writing: “Only on weekdays, he needs to be held while I brush my teeth. If I brush my teeth without holding him, I’m getting attacked.”

Gatsby is a Nebelung cat, a pedigree breed described as being playful, curious and sociable, an one that enjoys playing games. The breed is noted for being very affectionate toward family and trusted friends.
Purina pet-food manufacturer even describes the Nebelung as being demanding when they want a cuddle. They follow owners around and intentionally get in their way until they get what they want—totally reflecting Gatsby’s determined requests for “towel time.”
