Outlander: Blood of My Blood stars admit pressure on joining iconic series

Outlander: Blood of My Blood star Hermione Corfield has opened up about signing on to the franchise

The cast of the Outlander prequel series, Outlander: Blood of My Blood, has shared their feelings about joining the acclaimed Starz historical saga, which has recently revealed its opening credits and confirmed a widely speculated theory, reports the Express.

In a recent interview, Hermione Corfield, who steps into the role of Julia Moriston, mother to Outlander’s spirited protagonist Claire Fraser (portrayed by Caitríona Balfe), opened up about her experience.

“There’s always a pressure when something has such a huge fan base and a whole world,” said the 31 year old English actress, acknowledging the weight of expectation that comes with such a beloved series.

Despite feeling some nerves, Corfield, known for her roles in We Hunt Together and Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation, expressed her excitement about joining a franchise as significant and cherished as Outlander.

She assured fans that Blood of My Blood will “only expand” the Outlander universe, promising to “deepen the story and the legacy”.

Jeremy Irvine, portraying her on-screen spouse and Claire’s father Henry Beauchamp, also spoke about the honour of joining the Outlander phenomenon.

The 35 year old War Horse actor, in conversation with Cosmopolitan, considered himself “lucky” to be part of a series that has already elicited “strong feelings” from its audience.

Their comments come as anticipation builds for the global premiere of Outlander: Blood of My Blood next month, offering fans a glimpse into the earlier timeline of the Outlander narrative.

Set years before the original series, the prequel is poised to explore storylines that have been hinted at in the main show.

Outlander: Blood of My Blood will chronicle the sweeping romantic sagas of Henry and Julia, alongside the separate tale of Jamie Fraser’s (Sam Heughan) parents Brian Fraser (Jamie Roy) and Ellen MacKenzie (Harriet Slater).

In contrast to the main series, Outlander: Blood of My Blood won’t be based on any existing novels, granting the show’s creators considerable artistic licence with the drama, enabling writers to flesh out the gaps in Claire’s parents’ history.

Starz has revealed that both Henry and Julia possess time-travelling abilities and will be catapulted into the past following a devastating car accident.

The preview for the upcoming drama reveals Henry and Julia torn apart in the past as they frantically attempt to find one another again.

Hinting at their major plotline, Corfield acknowledged that had Henry and Julia simply experienced their WWI romance, it wouldn’t have constituted a “huge journey” for the characters.

The time-travelling aspect, which she noted bore similarities to Claire’s Outlander adventure, enriched Henry and Julia’s narrative arc significantly.

Starz has also released an Instagram video, placing Claire and Julia’s respective passages through the stones alongside each other to emphasise the connections between Blood of My Blood and Outlander.

The clip was playfully captioned: “The rumors are true: Claire got more than her looks from Julia. #BloodOfMyBlood #Outlander.”

While Outlander: Blood of My Blood is yet to be released, Starz has already given the green light for its second season, with production already underway. This means fans of the Outlander universe have a lot to anticipate, including the eighth and final season of the original series.
