Ottawa stunt driver charged New Year’s Eve

Provincial police from the Ottawa detachment arrested a motorist on Hwy 417 with stunt driving on New Year’s Eve after police clocked the vehicle at 164 km/h.

The penalty for stunt driving is an immediate 30-day driving suspension and a 14-day vehicle impound. Upon conviction, the driver could receive a minimum $2,000 fine, six demerit points, and a one-year driving prohibition.

Four other drivers were charged with operating vehicles without insurance.

One of those drivers was stopped after police received an ALPR camera notification that the plate permit had expired. The vehicle was not insured, OPP said in a release.

The penalty for operating a vehicle without insurance is $5,000.
