Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, who also holds charge of the housing ministry, on Friday took a review of the department and announced that one lakh homes will be constructed for mill workers.
Shinde instructed the officials that in order to implement the ambitious ‘Houses for All’ scheme, the state’s new housing policy should focus on affordable, sustainable and environmental-friendly houses. He instructed the officials to prepare a detailed policy within a month so that citizens can easily benefit from the schemes of MHADA and the housing department and speed up the stalled redevelopment projects in Mumbai.
“About one lakh houses will be built for mill workers through the state government. A cluster scheme will be launched soon for the development of the city and lakhs of houses will be available in Mumbai through this scheme,” said the Shiv Sena leader.
A review meeting of the housing department was held at the Sahyadri Guest House under the chairmanship of Shinde, who took a detailed review of various schemes and projects.
Shinde said Maharashtra will be the first state to implement a housing policy for senior citizens. According to this policy, hostels for students, hostels for working women, houses for workers, houses on rent, redevelopment, eco-friendly houses, houses will be constructed through innovative technology. Many projects are being implemented in the state through various housing societies. Work on these pending housing projects in Mumbai should be accelerated, he directed.
Shinde said one lakh houses will be built for mill workers and the tender process for it has been completed. The mill workers, who have migrated to their native villages, should be examined to see if they can be given houses in their villages. Shinde also directed that a meeting be organized with the mill workers union.
The Deputy Chief Minister said slum rehabilitation and other rehabilitation projects that have been stalled in Mumbai will be started. For this, the slum rehabilitation scheme has been launched and the aim is to make Mumbai slum-free by completing this project.
The slums of Mata Ramabai Ambedkar Nagar and Kamraj Nagar are being redeveloped through MMRDA and the Slum Rehabilitation Authority.
Shinde issued directions for a centralized, transparent and web-based state housing information portal for housing information, and also said a detailed policy be made regarding the creation of transit camps for residents of dangerous buildings.
He also reviewed the BDD Chawl Redevelopment Project, Patra Chawl Redevelopment Project, Motilal Nagar 1, 2, and 3 Colonies Redevelopment, Kamathipura area redevelopment through MHADA, houses for police, Gharkul scheme for mill workers, rehabilitation project at GTB Nagar Soyam, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana among several other projects.
