On World Art Day, live painting demo and on-the-spot art creation by 35 artists in Bengaluru | Bangalore News

On World Art Day, observed to mark the birth anniversary of Leonardo da Vinci, Davanagere Art College’s alumni association held a daylong event in Bengaluru attended by artists from across Karnataka.

World Art Day, which pays tribute to one of the greatest artists of the world, has been celebrated in the state since 2012. “When I was the chairman of the Karnataka Lalithakala Academy, I started the World Art Day celebrations in India. This was in 2012. UNESCO has declared April 15 as World Art Day. It is on the birthday of Leonardo Da Vinci. So I began celebrating it and it has been celebrated in many districts over the last decade,” said Krishna Setty C S, who presided over the event held at the Ravindra Kalakshetra on Tuesday.

Krishna Setty said the event, organised by the alumni association DAKAHAVISA, is intended to provide a platform for artists and the public to engage with them.

The celebration began at 10 am and featured a live painting demonstration by artist Kariyappa Hanchinamani, followed by an on-the-spot art creation by 35 artists from across the state. The event was inaugurated by renowned painter Chandranath Acharya.

“This year, celebrated artist Sheela Gowda received the international Sam Gilliam Award and she was felicitated during the event,” Setty said.

The event was open to all, allowing hundreds of people to engage with artists, watch their creative processes, and examine or buy artworks on exhibit.

Setty emphasised the value of public participation in advancing the arts.
