Officials reveal the future of egg prices as shoppers immediately see record-high costs

SHOPPERS must brace themselves for continued high egg costs, officials have warned.

The Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins has said that egg prices will remain high and could even further increase over the next few weeks.

Speaking to reporters at The White House on Tuesday, Rollins warned: “We’re going into the Easter season.

“This is always the highest price for eggs.”

Her comments came as she detailed a $1 billion five-point strategy to tackle the egg crisis.

Part of this plan will be to try to mitigate the number of bird flu outbreaks that have culled birds across the country and caused a major egg shortage, causing egg prices to soar.

Over 150 million chickens, turkeys, and egg-laying hens have been wiped out in the US since 2022, the department revealed.

Under the Trump administration’s biosafety strategy towards bird flu, Rollins said that egg prices have dropped by almost $2, although many shoppers are still waiting to see a difference.

“A good piece of news we just got in the last day or two is that the average cost of a dozen eggs has gone down $1.85 since we announced our plan about a week and a half ago,” Rollins proudly stated.

But on X, one angry shopper said: “Eggs are 5.97 a dozen at Walmart today. Highest yet.”

“I don’t know where Trump buys his eggs, hell, he doesn’t even where his people buy his eggs,” another wrote.

“Egg prices are not less expensive today than the day he became president. Not even close.”

My store has gone up 20 cents a dozen every month so far,” a third wrote.

Another said: “Egg prices still the same. Said eggs went down $2 nationally.

“Well, it’s been 3 days and no change”

“Where I am, eggs were cheaper before the price went down,” another chimed in.

“Now they’re the highest I’ve ever seen in the last 5 years. Waiting patiently while the prices go down here in NJ.”

Under the Agriculture secretary’s $1 billion plan, she hopes to import up to 100 million eggs from other markets and fund research into bird vaccines.

Rollins said: “We’re more focused on how we bring the price of eggs down and the avian bird flu for everyone.”

It comes just days after the Justice Department launched a probe into surging egg costs across the country.

Antitrust investigators are looking into if egg producers have been artificially inflating prices by keeping back supplies, according to The Wall Street Journal.

The United Egg Producers, a trade group for the industry, told the outlet that egg farmers are “doing everything they can to fight back against this deadly bird flu outbreak.”

Egg prices have doubled in a year and are the driving force of food inflation, according to grocers.

The U.S. Sun previously reported on a little-known solution found by shoppers to ease the egg shortage as retailers like Costco enforce buying limits.
