The frontman of Oasis support act Cast has paid a touching tribute to footballer Diogo Jota during their performance at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium. Oasis’ reunion tour – Live ’25, began at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium on Friday, July 4.
John Power, frontman of Liverpool band Cast, dedicated their song, Walkaway, to Jota. The Liverpool and Portugal star, aged 28, died alongside his younger brother Andre Silva when the car they were travelling in left the road and burst into flames in Zamora, Spain, during the early hours of Thursday morning.
The tragedy came less than two weeks after Jota married his long-term partner Rute Cardoso, with whom he had three children.

The 1996 song dedicated to Jota is an emotional one, which resonates with many of its listeners.
Following Jota’s death, hundreds of mourners gathered at a wake for the footballer and his brother on Friday morning, July 4.
During their performance, the Liverpool band also performed Sandstorm, History and Get Up, amongst other songs.
The band took to the stage at around 6pm, before Richard Ashcroft, the former frontman of The Verve, performs as the second opening act, before the Gallagher brothers – Noel and Liam – take to the stage at 8.15pm.
The brothers haven’t performed together since 2009. Their gig on Friday, July 4, will be the first of many tour dates, with the following evening seeing their second gig in the Welsh capital on Saturday, July 5.
