Oasis has released a statement following the tragic death of a man who fell during their Wembley Stadium concert on Saturday evening. Emergency crews were called to reports of an injured person at 10.19pm on Saturday (August 2) near the conclusion of the band’s show at the 90,000-capacity venue in London.

They were performing at Wembley as part of their massive comeback tour, which has already taken the Britpop band to Cardiff, Manchester, and now the capital. A man in his 40s was declared dead at the scene after police and paramedics rushed to assist following his fall from seating 170ft above ground level at the London stadium.

In a statement issued on Sunday, officers revealed they are seeking witnesses to come forward with details about the incident, reports Manchester Evening News.

The Metropolitan Police statement said: “At around 22:19hrs on Saturday, 2 August, officers on duty at Wembley Stadium for the Oasis concert responded alongside venue medics and the London Ambulance Service to reports that a person had been injured.

“A man – aged in his 40s – was found with injuries consistent with a fall. He was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. The stadium was busy, and we believe it is likely a number of people witnessed the incident, or may knowingly or unknowingly have caught it on mobile phone video footage.”

Following the incident, Oasis released a statement on Sunday evening saying: “We are shocked and saddened to hear of the tragic death of a fan at the show last night. Oasis would like to extend our sincere condolences to the family and friends of the person involved.”

Wembley Stadium also issued a statement: “Last night, Wembley Stadium medics, the London ambulance service and the police attended to a concertgoer who was found with injuries consistent with a fall.

“Despite their efforts, the fan very sadly died. Our thoughts go out to his family, who have been informed and are being supported by specially trained police officers.”

The performance by Oasis scheduled for Sunday, August 3, will proceed as planned.
