Kim Jong Un’s house: Kim Jong Un, the third Supreme Leader of North Korea since December 2011, is one of the most protected heads of states. According t reports, he has more than 10 secret houses which are heavily protected, even though a few of the residences were identified using satellite images in the North Korea Uncovered project, nothing concrete can be said about his actual locations.
Based on the available information, we will tell you about his three homes and their features.
Ryongsong Residence
It is the main official residence of North Korean supreme leader Kim Jong Un and first lady Ri Sol-ju. It is located in Ryongsong District in northern Pyongyang. The size of the whole leadership complex is around 12 km2 (4.6 sq mi). According to Kim Jong Il’s former bodyguard Lee Young Guk, there are at least eight North Korean leaders’ residences outside Pyongyang.
The complex has an underground wartime headquarters, protected with walls with iron rods and concrete covered with lead in case of a nuclear war. There are numerous military units to protect the headquarters stationed around the complex in possession of mass scale conventional weapons.
The area is surrounded by an electric fence, mine fields and many security checkpoints. A private underground train station is also inside the residence compound.
Kangdong Residence
It is the summer residence of Kim Jong Un. It is located in Kangdong-gun, a suburban county of Pyongyang, around 30 km (19 mi) northeast of Kim Il-sung Square. The size of the whole leadership complex is around 4 km2 (1.5 sq mi).
The compound contains buildings for Kim Jong Il, his late wife Ko Yong-hui, his sister Kim Kyong-hui and his brother-in-law Jang Sung-taek. The area is mostly used as a summer residence, to spend holidays or for parties with close officials.
The whole compound is a maximum security area, surrounded by two armoured fence lines with guards’ huts and checkpoints.
The Sinuiju Residence
Locally known as the Central Luxury House or Central Luxury Residence, it is an official residence of Kim Jong-Un. He reportedly took over the residence from his father, Kim Jong-il after the elder Kim’s death in 2011. The residence is located near Sinuiju, in the North P’yŏngan province of North Korea. Public knowledge about the residence came to light through the North Korea Uncovered project.
