CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Decisions made back in 2018 when it comes to tolls on the West Virginia Turnpike are taking effect today.
State lawmakers approved a number of funding changes nearly 7 years ago including a deeply-discounted E-ZPass for the toll road but part of that package was also built-in toll increases on those paying with cash.
The latest increase kicked in today, Jan. 1. Tolls are now $4.50 per passenger vehicle, up from $4.25. Commercial vehicles are also paying more. The revenue collected continues to pay down bonds that finance the 88-mile highway and its upkeep.
West Virginia Parkways Authority Executive Director Jeff Miller said E-ZPass remains the quickest, most efficient way to move through the Turnpike’s three main tollbooths. An unlimited use pass can be purchased for $26.25 a year.
The Turnpike toll booths will also soon begin accepting credit cards, a pay by plate option went into effect recently as part of the toll road’s new tolling system.
