As a part of the latest edition of fashion house Loewe’s Crafted World exhibition, Dutch design firm OMA has adorned a building in Tokyo’s Harajuku center with bright art. The space is decorated with neon graphics along the exterior and continued on the inside in the form of stickers. This way, visitors could use it to decorate the staircase, which was left to be more bare. It is a form of activity and encourages interaction.
Architect at OMA, Giulio Margheri speaks to Dezeen at the opening, “The facade in Shanghai was more to signal an entrance; here we had a free-standing building, so we had to consider the whole building. So the facade becomes an occasion to think about how it can be the interface between the exhibition itself and the city on the outside – almost like it was a room towards the city. We played with this idea of neon, bringing in some of the elements that are very present in the city, because of Tokyo, its lights and brightness.”
