Conducted for TD Insurance, the poll found 59% of motorists reported their vehicle was damaged in a parking lot. Of those, 43% said they’ve have had their car hit by another vehicle while in a parking lot.

The survey also found that more than half — or 57% — of Ontarians find parking in underground or indoor parking lots stressful; however, only 15% confess to having hit another vehicle while parking.

The poll found 29% admit to having hit a pole, pillar, or similar object while parking in a lot, and over half of Ontarians — 54% — have had a near miss in a parking lot.

Of all GTA regions, a higher number of Torontonians were most likely to indicate that parking in underground or indoor parking lots is “very stressful.”

TD Insurance leveraged its own claims data to identify some of the busiest parking lots in the city.

Conducted by Angus Reid from Feb. 28-25, a probability sample of this size — an online poll of 805 Ontarians — has a margin of error of 3.5%, 19 times out of 20.
