The National Emergencies Operation Center (NEOC) has issued a countrywide alert, warning of intense monsoon rains from June 29 to July 5, with a heightened risk of flash floods, landslides, and urban flooding in several regions.
According to the advisory, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Islamabad, and northern areas, including Abbottabad, Mansehra, Haripur, Balakot, Murree, and Galiyat, are expected to receive heavy downpours. These areas face the threat of landslides and rising water levels in local streams.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, cities like Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Kohat, Swat, Chitral, Dera Ismail Khan, Bannu, and Mardan may experience urban flooding. Rivers, including the Kabul and Swat, are likely to see increased flow, raising flood concerns.
Punjab’s northern and central districts—Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Sialkot, Gujranwala, Narowal, Lahore, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Sheikhupura, and Kasur—are also forecasted to receive torrential rains, possibly submerging low-lying areas.
In Sindh, the threat window is between July 2 and 5. Karachi, Hyderabad, Thatta, Badin, Sujawal, Dadu, and Jamshoro may witness severe rain spells, with a strong possibility of urban flooding and stormy weather.
The NEOC also warned of potential flash floods in hilly regions such as Hazara, Malakand, Azad Kashmir, and the Pir Panjal range. Additional hazards include the collapse of poorly built structures, falling trees, electricity poles, and billboards, along with reduced visibility from dust storms and waterlogging on roads.
Authorities urge the public to avoid crossing rivers and streams, stay informed about local weather conditions, and steer clear of weak infrastructure. Travelers are advised to stay updated using the Pak NDMA Disaster Alert app.
