A nan has shared heartwarming photos of a “beautiful” moment she witnessed on a Merseyside beach. Last month, Nikki Flowerday, 50, took her grandchildren to Wallasey when she witnessed a couple giving their dog its “final swim.”

She told the ECHO how the moment was “beautiful” to witness and took some snaps of the couple and their much-loved pet. She shared the pictures on Facebook in hopes of getting them to the couple; however, she hasn’t had any luck.

Nikki, from Wallasey, said: “I was there with my grandchildren. They [the couple] came down the slipway onto the sand. They had two dogs with them.

“One was in some kind of body harness to help her walk; she appeared not to be able to walk very well, so they were helping her walk down onto the sand with the harness. It had handles on it so they could hold her upright, bless her.

“They took her into the water; she was really loving being in there. They held her up in the water. [It] was beautiful to witness. On the way down the slipway we had a quick exchange of words, I’d said hello and what a beautiful dog. They said they were taking her for her last swim and visit to the beach.

“I think a few other people spoke with them near the water’s edge, because they were in the water with her and the other dog for well over an hour. They let her float and play.”

Nikki says it was “such a special moment” to witness. She added: “It was just lovely to see such a special moment between a very caring couple, who clearly loved their dog. My 11-year-old grandson also fetched the dog some sticks to play with in the water.”

The nan took some candid photos of the couple and their dog and shared them on the Wallasey Gossip Facebook community group in hope of getting them to the owners so they can remember the moment.

In the post, Nikki said: “I watched something beautiful tonight on the beach. A lovely couple giving their dog her last swim and visit to the beach.

“I took some photos and hope that they see them here and have this memory to keep. I hope this is okay to post. I’d like these photos to reach them both.”

Sadly, Nikki has so far been unsuccessful at getting the snaps to the couple. The Liverpool Echo hopes to help Nikki reunite the photos. Is this you? Let us know! Email megan.banner@reachplc.com.
