Mumbai News Live Updates: The cabinet expansion of the BJP-led Maharashtra government is likely to take place on Sunday, with the new ministers taking the oath of office at a ceremony in Nagpur. The decision to shift the venue from Mumbai to Nagpur comes in the wake of the inordinate delay in finalising the ministerial candidates and allocation of portfolios between the Mahayuti alliance partners. A senior BJP leader told news agency PTI on Friday that 30-32 ministers are likely to take oath. The week-long winter session of the state legislature will follow the oath-taking in Nagpur on Monday.
Shiv Sena president and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde late Friday night met Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis at his official residence Sagar in Mumbai to discuss and resolve differences regarding the Cabinet expansion. A series of closed-door deliberations among the three ruling parties were held on Friday to fine-tune the portfolios and candidates’ names.
Today’s weather update: Mumbai experienced a maximum temperature of 17 degrees Celsius on Saturday, following the coldest December day in nearly a decade earlier this week. The temperature drop occurred just five days after residents faced a maximum temperature of 37.3 degrees Celsius on December 4, marking it as the hottest December day since 2008. Several weather experts have attributed the rapid rise in temperatures last week to the influx of easterlies and the after-effects of Cyclone Fengal.
