Multimillion-dollar mansion in Toorak, Melbourne completely destroyed in suspicious fire

A multimillion-dollar mansion in Melbourne’s most expensive suburb has been completely guttered in a suspicious fire.

Police and fire crews attended the house on St Georges Rd, near Ultimo Ct, in Toorak just before 12.30am on Friday.

About 30 firefighters were called in to control the ferocious blaze.

Crews managed to stop the fire spreading to neighbouring mansions, including one that is worth $70 million.

The mansion is currently undergoing renovation work. No one was inside the mansion at the time of the fire.

It’s understood the property is owned by a middle-aged couple.

The previous property was purchased for $7 million in 2021 and then torn down, with the new mansion estimated to be worth $20 million if put on the market once finished.

It’s believed the home was just weeks away from being finished.

The cause of the fire is so far unclear however police are investigating it as suspicious.

An arson chemist is expected to visit the home on Friday morning.
