‘Most popular comedy of the decade’ finally teases season 4

The cast of one of the biggest comedies of the past 10 years have confirmed that the Apple TV+ show is back in production with some huge changes

One of the most popular comedy programmes of the past decade is finally beginning work on its eagerly awaited next series.

Despite ranking as the most-watched show on Apple TV+, the programme appeared to conclude after merely three series more than two years ago.

Nevertheless, earlier this year the streaming platform confirmed that Ted Lasso had been commissioned for a fourth series, announcing the comeback of Jason Sudeikis’ optimistic American Premier League coach.

More than two years since the third series finale in May 2023, lead actor Sudeikis has hinted at a shift in direction for the programme in a behind-the-scenes footage featuring some of the cast.

The brief video uploaded to YouTube shows the star alongside Hannah Waddingham, Juno Temple and Jeremy Swift in what looks to be an American diner, reports the Mirror.

Confirming the surprising change of location, the caption states: “We’re not in Richmond anymore. Ted Lasso Season 4 is now in production.”

It appears the fourth series will continue from the most recent finale, which saw Ted returning to his hometown in Kansas to manage his son’s football team.

However, AFC Richmond owner Rebecca Welton (portrayed by Waddingham) and the team appear ready to persuade him to return for at least one more Premier League campaign in the UK.

A synopsis for the series states: “Ted returns to Richmond, taking on his biggest challenge yet: coaching a second division women’s football team.

“Throughout the course of the season, Ted and the team learn to leap before they look, taking chances they never thought they would.”

Alongside the four stars featured in the video, both Brett Goldstein and Brendan Hunt are set to reprise their roles as Roy Kent and Coach Beard, respectively.

Additionally, there will be numerous other alterations being implemented this time around beyond the overhaul of the programme’s location.
