More Monsoon Rainfall Predicted Till Next Weekend

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast widespread rain and thunderstorms across the country in the coming days, warning of potential urban flooding, landslides, and flash floods in vulnerable areas.

According to the Met Office, monsoon currents are actively penetrating Sindh and northern parts of the country and are expected to intensify in upper and central Pakistan starting July 20. A fresh westerly wave is also expected to enter the northern regions on July 21, likely triggering heavy downpours and severe weather conditions through July 26, with intermittent breaks.

More Monsoon Rainfall Predicted Till Next Weekend

Region-Wise Rain Forecast:

Sindh (July 18–20):

Rain with wind and thunderstorms, accompanied by isolated heavy showers, is forecast in:

  • Tharparkar, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Mithi, Thatta, Badin, Hyderabad, Tando Allahyar, Tando Muhammad Khan, Karachi, Shaheed Benazirabad, Khairpur, Dadu, Jacobabad, Kashmore, Sanghar, Sukkur, Ghotki, and Larkana.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (July 21–25):

Rain, wind, and thunderstorms with heavy to very heavy falls are expected in:

  • Dir, Chitral, Swat, Malakand, Kohistan, Shangla, Battagram, Buner, Kohat, Karak, Bannu, Tank, Lakki Marwat, D.I. Khan, and merged tribal districts including Waziristan, Orakzai, Bajaur, Khyber, Mohmand, Kurram.

Major cities like Peshawar, Mardan, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, Hangu, Abbottabad, Haripur, and Mansehra will also be affected.

Punjab and Islamabad (July 18–25):

Scattered rain and thunderstorms with heavy to very heavy showers are likely in:

  • Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galliyat, Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Mianwali, Bhakkar, Sahiwal, Okara, Nankana Sahib, and adjoining areas.
  • Southern Punjab, including Multan, D.G. Khan, Bahawalpur, Muzaffargarh, Lodhran, Rajanpur, and Rahim Yar Khan, will experience rain between July 18 (night) and July 23.

Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan:

In Azad Kashmir, including Muzaffarabad, Neelum Valley, Rawalakot, Poonch, Bagh, and Mirpur, rain with heavy falls is forecast between July 20 and 25.

  • Gilgit-Baltistan regions such as Diamir, Astore, Hunza, Skardu, and Gilgit will receive rainfall from July 21 to 26.

Balochistan (July 18–25):

Intermittent rain and thunderstorms are expected in the northeastern and southern parts of the province, including:

  • Lasbela, Awaran, Khuzdar, Quetta, Zhob, Kalat, Qilla Saifullah, Qilla Abdullah, Ziarat, Sherani, Loralai, and Barkhan.

Possible Hazards and Public Advisory:

  • Flash Flood Risk: High risk of flash flooding in rivers and streams across northern KP, Murree, Pothohar, and parts of Punjab and Kashmir.
  • Urban Flooding: Likely in low-lying areas of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Peshawar, and Sialkot from July 21 to 25.
  • Landslides: Possible road closures due to landslides in hilly areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Murree.
  • Infrastructure Damage: Strong winds, lightning, and intense rainfall may damage Kacha houses, rooftops, electric poles, billboards, and solar panels.
  • Public Advisory: Citizens, especially tourists and travelers, are urged to remain cautious, avoid unnecessary travel to vulnerable areas, and stay updated with the latest weather alerts.
