While Norway was absorbed in its World Ski Championships in Trondheim, and a ski-jumping scandal as they ended over the weekend, another Norwegian athlete was harvesting more gold at the European indoor track and field championships in the Netherlands. Jakob Asserson Ingebrigtsen met expectations and could travel home with two more gold medals of his own.
Ingebrigtsen won the 1500-meter race by a wide margin on Friday, and news bureau NTB reported that he had few problems winning a second gold medal in the 3000-meter race on Sunday.
Both he and his fellow athlete brothers face other problems at home, though, tied to a looming court case against their father and former coach Gjert Ingebrigtsen. The elder Ingebrigtsen has been charged with violence against his sons during their upbringing, with his trial set to start on March 24. The indoor World Championships in track and field are due to start March 21, but it’s uncertain whether the Ingebrigtsen brothers will take part.
