The city of Peshawar is set to implement a targeted mobile phone service suspension on September 22, coinciding with the Medical and Dental College Entrance Test (MDCAT). This decision, announced by the Commissioner of Peshawar, will affect areas surrounding all examination centers across the city.

The mobile service blackout is scheduled to last for four hours, strategically timed to coincide with the duration of the MDCAT. Officials have stated that this measure is designed to prevent cheating and other illicit activities that could compromise the integrity of the examination.

To facilitate this temporary service interruption, the Commissioner’s office has formally communicated with the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA). A letter detailing the request and its rationale has been sent to the regulatory body, seeking their cooperation in implementing this localized network shutdown.

Peshawar’s Commissioner has outlined additional security measures for the upcoming MDCAT 2024. Signal jamming devices will be installed inside and outside examination halls to further ensure the integrity of the test by blocking mobile phone communications.

To maintain order around test centers, authorities have invoked Section 144, prohibiting unauthorized individuals from gathering near these locations. This step aims to minimize potential disruptions and maintain a focused environment for test-takers.

The Commissioner also revealed that the Superintendent of Police (SP) Security has been tasked with developing a comprehensive security plan. This will include the deployment of both male and female police personnel to safeguard examination staff and candidates throughout the testing process.

Khyber Medical University Peshawar is overseeing the administration of MDCAT 2024 across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Multiple testing centers will be established throughout Peshawar to accommodate the large number of applicants
