Microsoft confirms AI-powered and improved Windows Search, to roll out soon | Technology News

Windows 10 is nearing the end of its support lifecycle, and Microsoft is actively encouraging users to upgrade to Windows 11 by rolling out innovative features. One such feature, recently confirmed by the company, is an AI-powered, enhanced Windows Search. However, this cutting-edge functionality will be exclusive to Copilot+ branded PCs equipped with Qualcomm, Intel, or AMD processors with dedicated neural processing units (NPUs).

The feature will initially be introduced to the Windows Insider community before being made available to the general public.

“You no longer need to remember file names and document locations, nor even specific names of words. Windows will better understand your intent and match the right document, image, file, or email. AI-powered search makes it dramatically easier to find virtually anything,” Yusuf Mehdi, executive vice president and consumer chief marketing officer at Microsoft, said in a press release.

The new Windows Search experience on Windows 11 shares similarities with Google’s “Search with Google Lens,” which allows users to find products online using images. In the same way, this feature will enable users to locate images, documents, videos, and more using simple text-based queries.

The AI-powered, improved Search on Windows 11 is directly integrated into the UI and can be accessed from the Windows Search interface. This feature is powered by the integrated NPU, enabling it to search both local storage and OneDrive to locate what the user is looking for.
