(NewsNation) — First Lady Melania Trump wore a navy and ivory ensemble by American designer Adam Lippes for today’s inauguration ceremony.
Melania’s outfit
The look included a tailored navy silk wool coat, a navy silk wool pencil skirt and an ivory silk crepe blouse, all designed by Lippes and handsewn in New York City.
“The tradition of the presidential inauguration embodies the beauty of American democracy, and today we had the honor to dress our first lady, Mrs. Melania Trump,” Adam Lippes said in a statement to NewsNation.
“Mrs. Trump’s outfit was created by some of America’s finest craftsmen, and I take great pride in showing such work to the world.”

The missed kiss
As President Donald Trump arrived inside the Capitol Rotunda, he greeted the first lady but could not plant a kiss on her cheek, ostensibly owing to the wide brim of her hat.
It caused laughter on NewsNation’s broadcast of the inauguration and on social media. CUOMO host Chris Cuomo joked “That could’ve gone better.”
The Hill Sunday host Chris Stirewalt noted “The hat brim is hard. The hat, again, figures prominently… that’s a long overhang.”

Fashion houses warm to Melania
Melania was publicly rejected by fashion designers during her husband’s first inauguration, but this time around fashion houses are eager to dress and impress.
Inaugural fashion played an important role in cultural and political history.
Despite the backlash surrounding her husband’s politics, Melania’s style made headlines during Trump’s first term.
At the 2017 inauguration, she wore a custom blue cashmere dress by Ralph Lauren in a tribute to Jackie kennedy.
