Meghan Markle shared a video of her and Prince Harry dancing in a hospital room to induce labour before Princess Lilibet was born.
Meghan Markle has given fans a rare glimpse into a personal and joyful moment from her past, sharing a video of her and Prince Harry dancing in a hospital room just hours before their daughter, Princess Lilibet, was born.
In the throwback clip posted to Instagram, a heavily pregnant Meghan is seen next to a hospital bed, dressed in a simple black dress with a cannula in her arm.
As the track Baby Mama by social media star Starrkeisha plays, she begins dancing before Harry enters the frame, playfully joining in and eventually pulling up the hood of his jumper to show off his own moves.
“Four years ago today, this also happened,” Meghan wrote alongside the video.
“Both of our children were a week past their due dates… so when spicy food, all that walking, and acupuncture didn’t work, there was only one thing left to do!”
The light-hearted footage comes as the couple mark Princess Lilibet’s fourth birthday, with Meghan also sharing several never-before-seen photos of their daughter.
One black-and-white snap shows Meghan holding Lilibet on her lap with windswept hair, the pair seemingly enjoying a boat ride together.
Another image shows the duchess cradling Lilibet as a newborn, enjoying skin-to-skin time shortly after the birth in 2021.
Meghan described the relationship between father and daughter as “the sweetest bond to watch unfold” and posted two more images of Lilibet with her dad, Prince Harry, writing: “Daddy’s little girl and favourite adventurer. Happy birthday Lili!”
Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor was born on 4 June 2021 in California. Named in honour of her great-grandmother Queen Elizabeth II, the princess takes her name from the Queen’s childhood nickname.
As a toddler, Elizabeth had trouble pronouncing her own name and her grandfather, King George V, affectionately dubbed her “Lilibet” in imitation, a name that stuck for life within the family.
Lilibet only became entitled to use the title of princess after her grandfather, King Charles III, ascended the throne.
Harry and Meghan began using the titles of prince and princess for their children after Lilibet’s christening in 2023, following conversations with the King.
In his memoir Spare, Prince Harry shares an emotional recollection of Lilibet’s birth, describing how he helped deliver her: “When the doctor said it was a matter of minutes, I told Meg that I wanted mine to be the first face our little girl saw.
“I slid my hands under the tiny back and neck. Gently, but firmly, as I’d seen in films, I pulled our precious daughter from that world into this, and cradled her just a moment, trying to smile at her, to see her, but honestly, I couldn’t see anything.”
He added: “I wanted to say: Hello. I wanted to say: Where have you come from? I wanted to say: Is it better there? Is it peaceful? Are you frightened? Don’t be, don’t be, all will be well. I’ll keep you safe.”
