Barkha was a well-known name in the Bollywood industry. She started her journey by participating in the prestigious beauty pageant, Miss India, which featured Sushmita Sen and Aishwarya Rai. Madan gave tough competition to both. Though she did not emerge as the winner, Barkha became the first runner-up and even won the title of Miss Tourism India.
In 1996, Barkha made her Bollywood debut with Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi, starring alongside Akshay Kumar, Raveena Tandon, and Rekha in leading roles. The movie turned out to be a huge hit and made Barkha a recognized name in the industry.
Over the years, Barkha took on various projects. One of her top projects, which still remains memorable, is the 2003 supernatural horror film Bhoot. Helmed by Ram Gopal Varma, Barkha’s performance was widely appreciated by the audience. The movie also featured Ajay Devgn, Urmila Matondkar, Nana Patekar, Rekha, Fardeen Khan, and Tanuja in key roles.
Barkha Madan’s Turn Towards Spirituality
Barkha’s career took a turning point when her films like Surkhaab and Soch Lo failed to receive much appreciation. In 2012, she chose to step away from the showbiz industry and embraced Buddhism. She became a monk and adopted the name Gyalten Samten.
Today, Barkha is an ardent follower of the 14th Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso. While she stays away from the glitz and glamour, Barkha is an avid social media user and often shares glimpses of the beauty and serenity of her simple, monk-like life.
