MASONTOWN, W.Va. — A side-by-side rider is being treated for unspecified injuries following a rollover accident Sunday night near the Cheat River.
Members of the Masontown and Bruceton-Brandonville volunteer fire departments water rescue teams were dispatched at around 7 p.m. Sunday after the side-by-side rolled over an embankment. Because of the victim’s injuries, first responders made the decision not to evacuate the patient with a rescue boat.
The Maryland State Police Aviation Command agreed to launch a helicopter from the Cumberland-based Trooper 5 Team to extract the unidentified patient.
The patient was flown to Ruby Memorial Hospital for treatment.
Information from first responders did not provide details about the location of the crash.
The Cheat Lake Volunteer Fire Department, West Virginia Division of Natural Resources Police and Monongalia EMS also responded to the scene.
