Ruben Amorim is looking to reinforce his Manchester United squad to compete in the Premier League next season
Manchester United have set their sights on Newcastle United star Bruno Guimaraes in an attempt to reinforce their midfield, according to the latest reports.
It is no surprise to see Ruben Amorim and Co. have already started planning for next season after his first few months in the Premier League as manager. The club will potentially look to reinforce the attack, midfield, and goalkeeping positions this summer.
With Christian Eriksen set to leave Old Trafford as a free agent, the future of Casemiro remains unclear beyond the summer. The Brazilian has found regular game hard to come by time this season, with many of his appearances coming off the bench.
According to TEAMtalk, United have already drawn up a two-man midfield wishlist, which is said to include the Newcastle star and Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton. The report adds that club chiefs are ‘internally discussing’ the prospect of signing the midfielders this summer.
Guimaraes, who has been at St James’ Park since 2022, has gone on to establish himself as a mainstay in Eddie Howe’s team. His performances have been instrumental in Newcastle’s rise.
Amorim has tried to address his team’s difficulty in building-up play, with Bruno Fernandes often playing in a deeper midfield role. However, the presence of Guimaraes in midfield would allow United to push their captain further forward.
As reported by GOAL last month, Guimaraes could leave for a fee of around £60million if Newcastle fail to qualify for the Champions League. As one of the club’s most prized assets, striking a deal with a European football chasing rival is not expected to be straightforward, however.
Barcelona are also believed to be among the clubs interested. If a deal for Guimaraes proves too complicated, the Reds could try to entice Wharton into a move, but they would face competition from Spanish giants Real Madrid.
