Manchester United-linked striker Matheus Cunha has hinted that he is ready to leave Wolverhampton Wanderers in the summer now that the club are looking likely to avoid relegation from the Premier League.

The Brazilian centre-forward joined Wolves from Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2023 as he looked to rebuild his career after a poor stint in Spain. After a mediocre first season in the West Midlands, Cunha began to repay the faith shown in him during the 2023/24 season when he notched double figures for goals.

This season has been just as prolific for the striker, as he has bagged 15 goals in all competitions despite Wolves hovering in the relegation battle. Such form for an underperforming team earned him admiring glances from the likes of Arsenal and United in the January transfer window.

However, Cunha has explained how his loyalty to Wolves prevented him from moving in the middle of the season. Speaking to The Guardian, the forward said: “I had a lot of offers, but I wouldn’t feel well if I had done it [moved].

“Some things you can’t control but I couldn’t leave the club in the middle of the season, in a difficult situation, in the relegation zone. Now, we’re close to achieving our goal [of staying up].

“But I’ve made it clear that I need to take the next step. I want to fight for titles, for big things.

“I have potential.” Such an admission from Cunha will be music to the ears of United as they look to bolster their attack in the summer.

However, Ruben Amorim will know that he shall need to paint a good project for Cunha if he wants the Brazilian to sign.
