Marcus Rashford will reportedly not be offered a route back to Manchester United this summer under Ruben Amorim.

The forward signed a loan deal with Aston Villa until the end of the season in February. By the time his move to Villa Park was confirmed, Rashford’s relationship with Reds boss Amorim is said to have broken down.

The Manchester Evening News understands that Rashford would have preferred a transfer to Barcelona, but the Catalan giants were not prepared to discuss a deal until the summer. With remaining at Old Trafford until the end of the season no longer an option, Rashford chose to work with Villa manager Unai Emery, who had personally expressed an interest in signing the United academy graduate.

Any hopes of a return to M16 next season are reportedly remote. Our colleagues at The Daily Star claim that United are looking to strike a permanent deal with Villa for Rashford in the region of £60million.

The 27-year-old has returned to form at the Birmingham-based club, with three assists in nine matches for Emery’s team. His performances have helped Villa reach the Champions League quarter-finals, where they will face French champions Paris Saint-Germain next month.

Rashford’s performances at Villa have also seen him earn a place in Thomas Tuchel’s England squad during the current international break. The winger started against Albania on Friday night but was substituted with around 15 minutes left to play.

Amorim previously said he allowed Rashford to leave United because the pair didn’t see eye-to-eye.

“I couldn’t get Marcus to see the way you’re supposed to play football and to train the way I see it,” he said. “Sometimes you have one player that is really good with one coach, and the same player with another coach is different.

“I wish the best to Rashford and to [Villa manager] Unai Emery, and they can connect because he’s a very good player.
