Manchester United are in the market for a striker in the summer transfer window as they look to address their lack of goals
Manchester United reportedly enquired about the possibility of signing Al Hilal striker Aleksandar Mitrovic on loan this summer and there is still a possibility that this deal could be completed should Victor Osimhen leave Napoli.
United are on the hunt for at least one centre-forward this summer having seen Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee struggle for goals last season. Nigerian international Osimhen has been one of the strikers who has been tipped with a move to Old Trafford.
The 26-year-old is expected to depart Napoli this summer and he has featured on United’s watchlist previously. However, speaking to Betway, journalist Ben Jacobs claimed that there is nothing concrete linking Osimhen with the Reds at this stage.
But, should Osimhen move to Al Hilal, there could be a possibility for Mitrovic to join United. It is claimed by Jacobs that United had enquired about signing the 30-year-old on loan if Osimhen was to arrive in Saudi Arabia prior to the Club World Cup.
While Osimhen rejected Al Hilal’s approach at that time, there remains a possibility that the Nigerian could sign later in the summer transfer window. Therefore, the move for Mitrovic could still come to fruition.
The Serbian scored an impressive 28 goals in the Middle East last season and comes with pedigree in the Premier League. In his last season in the Premier League top flight in 2022/23, Mitrovic bagged 14 goals in 24 appearances for Fulham.
Before that, the bulk of his goals have come in the Championship so his arrival would represent a gamble from the Reds. There are also concerns as to whether United would be willing to match his considerable wage he is receiving at Al Hilal.
But Jacobs says that he understands United would look to see if the Saudi Pro League club would subsidise some of his wages.
