The man, who police say was armed, allegedly confronted officers when they tried to pull him over in a traffic stop.

Authorities are investigating an officer-involved shooting in response to a man allegedly firing a gun at a Planet Fitness in Londonderry, New Hampshire on Wednesday.

Police responded to the scene at Planet Fitness on Orchard View Drive for a report of a shot fired, said Attorney General John M. Formella in a statement.

When police arrived, the male suspect believed to have fired the gunshot had left the gym, authorities said.

Police confirmed that no one was injured in the incident, according to Formella.

Officers then located the suspect’s car and conducted a motor vehicle stop on Winding Pond Road off of Orchard View Drive, authorities said.

The man, who police said was armed, allegedly confronted the officers, according to initial police dispatch notes.

Several gunshots were fired during the exchange, and the suspect was shot, authorities said.

The Londonderry Fire Department responded to provide medical assistance, but the man died at the scene, according to the statement.

Formella said there is no known threat to the public and no reports of additional injuries to any other individuals or officers.

Police closed the roadway in the area of Lincoln Drive near the entrance to a condominium complex for several hours to further investigate the shooting, according to the statement.

Police reopened the area early Thursday morning, Londonderry police said at 4:22 a.m.

Authorities said the incident remains under investigation.
