The suspect, the driver of the van, then fled the scene, with a manhunt now ongoing to find him. Police confirmed they were called to reports of a ‘serious assault’ involving a van striking a male pedestrian.

One witness said the victim, who was in a car, ‘got out to speak to the other driver’ before he was deliberately struck. A major emergency response was called to the scene.

Fire crews also attended the incident, beside the A627(M) slip road, and erected dignity screens.
