Adventure rides are meant to thrill, but they always carry that lingering question — what if something goes wrong? Unfortunately, for one man at the Sitala Puja Mela in Lumding, Assam, that “what if” turned into a terrifying reality.
On April 4, Bubu Malakar fell from an amusement ride after the harness reportedly failed during operation. The incident, which happened around 7:50 PM, left him injured and sparked chaos at the fairgrounds. Eyewitnesses rushed to help and transported him to the Lumding Railway Hospital for immediate medical attention. Initially feared dead, Malakar was later confirmed to have survived with injuries and was subsequently moved to a hospital in Hojai for further treatment, as per GPlus, a local media outlet. A police official from Lumding confirmed to GPlus, “The victim survived miraculously with some injuries,” adding that investigations are underway.
The accident triggered outrage among the local crowd, who blamed the organisers for negligence and lack of safety precautions. Some angry attendees even vandalised stalls and equipment at the fair.

Footage of the incident has now gone viral across social media, drawing strong reactions from viewers. One user commented, “These instances are just revision classes for these amusement parks and not at all warnings.” Another compared the experience to a horror film, saying, “Every amusement park ride is a set of Final Destination movies in India.” A third wrote, “Adventure sports in India is a big no.”
