English Championship side have reportedly rejected a seven-figure bid from Manchester City for 15-year-old wonderkid Caelan-Kole Cadamarteri.

The teenager has caught the eye of the cream of the Premier League with a fine goal scoring season for the Owls at youth level and netted five of his team’s six strikes in a 6-0 hammering of Colchester United’s u18s on Saturday.

Not only is Cadamarteri playing against players three years above his age group, but the talented youngster is being courted by both the Scotland and England national teams and has already represented both nations at youth level.

And according to The Star, English second-tier club Wednesday have knocked back an offer from reigning Premier League champions Man City that was worth a staggering seven figure sum.

They add that the Owls face a tough task to try and keep a hold of the teenager die to the nature of the rules regarding contracts at youth level.

Cadamarteri can only sign a scholarship deal when he turns 16 and will have to wait another 12 months until he is eligble to pen a full-time professional contract.

Wednesday will be desperate for the wonderkid to stick around until he can sign a professional deal which would in turn put them in a stronger position to fend off transfer interest down the line.

Once a youth player is tied down to a professional contract, clubs will be guaranteed a compensation fee should one of their prized assets decide to move on higher up the food chain in England.

However, clubs north of the border or further afield would have to pay a reduced compensation package to land Cadamarteri.

Cross-border rules mean that Celtic or Rangers would be able to snap up highly-coveted youngsters from down south on cut-price deals.

As recently as 2021, Celtic used this to their advantage to bring midfielder Liam Shaw to Glasgow, signing a four-year-deal for a reported fee of £300,000.

Shaw – who now plays for Northampton – went onto make just two first team outings for the Hoops before moving onto Fleetwood Town at the start of last season following loan spells with Motherwell, Morecambe and Wigan.
