Man breaks up with girlfriend after her phone automatically connects to hotel WiFi | Trending News

A couple’s vacation in Chongqing, China, took a bizarre turn that ended in a public breakup and even a televised investigation, the South China Morning Post reported. The incident unfolded when a man, whose identity has not been disclosed, accused his girlfriend of cheating after her phone automatically connected to the WiFi at a hotel they were checking into.

According to the woman, the drama began as the couple tried to check into a hotel during their holiday. Unable to locate her physical ID, she attempted to download a digital version. It was during this process that both noticed her phone had automatically logged onto the hotel’s WiFi network. The man became suspicious and confronted her, asking if she had stayed there before, possibly with someone else.

The woman denied having ever been to the hotel before but couldn’t explain the WiFi connection. As tensions rose, the man abruptly ended the relationship, convinced “she had been unfaithful”. Shocked and heartbroken, she turned to friends, who were equally stunned by the reasoning behind the breakup, the report said.

Determined to clear her name, she began investigating the incident. She soon discovered that a different hotel in Chongqing, where she used to work, used the same WiFi name and password as the hotel in question. Her phone had likely saved the login credentials and automatically connected, despite it being in a different location.

She attempted to explain this to her ex-boyfriend, but he refused to respond and even blocked her on a messaging app.

Festive offer

In a final effort to prove her innocence, the woman reached out to a local TV channel. A reporter from there visited her former workplace and connected to the WiFi at the reception desk. Then, they visited the hotel where the incident took place, and the reporter’s phone also automatically connected.

This experiment confirmed the woman’s innocence. However, she told the channel she had no plans to reconcile with her ex.
